week 8

What is happening to my Baby?

Your baby is continuing to grow. By now, he has all the organs like an adult. The ears are gradually forming. Your baby’s head is larger compared to the other parts at the moment and the baby’s face is beginning to take shape. The baby’s sex is already determined by this stage but still could not be seen from ultrasound. At this stage, your baby is only the size of a bean!
What is happening to me?
There may not be obvious changes but you will notice subtle changes to your body. Your clothes may be tight around the breast and waist. Your blood volume has already increased by up to 40 – 50% ! You may also start to feel more tired than usual.
What should I plan this week?
  • Start reading up on pregnancy books. Visit a nearby bookstore or buy online.  You could also google online regarding pregnancy.
  • If you notice vaginal bleeding at this stage. Go and see your doctor immediately. Take note of the amount of bleeding, the colour of bleeding (brown or fresh red) and other associated symptoms such as abdominal pain. There are several causes of bleeding in early pregnancy. Please refer to the section on Bleeding in early pregnancy. If you have a history of recurrent miscarriage or your doctor diagnose you to have threatened miscarriage, talk to your doctor about a medication called Duphaston to support your pregnancy.
