Wonderful Days, Pregnancy! A Great Success with over 100 Participants
‘Wonderful Days, Pregnancy Joy!’ :
A Great Success with over 100 Participants
It was a beautiful Sunday morning when excited expecting parents got together in the Marriott Putrajaya Hotel for a day of fun, education and attractive promotions on all things! The event aptly titled ‘Wonderful Days, Pregnancy Joy!’ was an interactive ante-natal programme organised by Columbia Asia Hospital PUCHONG in partnership with www.pitterpatter.com.my .This educational initiative is part of Columbia Asia Hospital PUCHONG’s corporate social responsibility and continuous public education effort to improve awareness on maternal health and ante natal care.
Starting at around 11.30 am, participants gathered around the ‘market place’ to enjoy the wonderful discounts and attractive promotions brought to them by various renowned brands in antenatal care and maternity products.
Our radiant happy couples also got to feel like teenagers attending their prom night again, as photographers from Talestotell organised a special photo shoot for each of the expecting couple. Needless to say, this session proved extremely popular amongst participants as they captured the memories of their wonderful journey through pregnancy
This was followed by an informative talk by Dr. Silvam Sellapan, Consultant Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Columbia Asia Hospital PUCHONG who was not only engaging but managed to ease the anxiety of most first-time parents, about the birth and labour process with his talk on “What to Expect During Delivery”.
Our next speaker was Dr. Wong Wei Lin, Consultant Paediatrician, Columbia Asia Hospital PUCHONG who managed to pack quite a punch with her talk on “Infant Healthcare”. Dr Wong touched on various subjects such as checking the child’s vital signs for possible illnesses and managing the child’s diet and nutrition.
Continuing on the topic of infant health protection, the next session by representatives from Cryocord, touched on the new medical breakthrough of cord blood stem cell banking, which provides a means to safeguard your child’s health in the future by storing his or her stem cells. This session was very insightful as it provided parents with the knowledge on this other great method for them to protect their children against diseases in the future.
Participants were then treated to some light snacks and delectable desserts while they were given the chance to shop around the ‘market place’ once again. This time, they managed to grab some more freebies and attractive offers that they might have missed the first time around. This was then followed by a lucky draw where participants with lady luck on their side walked away with hampers worth RM100 each.
The second half of the programme focused more on the practical aspects of becoming a new parent. During the first session, our guest physiotherapist Ms Lee Heng Ho who is a physiotherapist from Columbia Asia Hospital PUCHONG showed participants some useful antenatal exercises that may help reduce women’s discomfort during pregnancy and also ease their pain during delivery. Participants were engaged throughout the session and were seen to even try some of the demonstrated positions and exercises.
Our event organisers saved the best for last, bringing out one of its regular expert speaker Ms. Jasmeen Tay, to speak on “The ways to calm a fussy baby”. Adopting the 5S technique first introduced by Dr. Harvey Karp from UCLA, Ms. Jasmeen demonstrated the techniques to turn the babies from a crying miserable tot to a bouncing happy babe. The participants really enjoyed the session as they too were given a baby doll to practice some of the techniques that were shown by Ms Jasmeen. The highlight of the session was Ms Jasmeen going around to each table and providing constructive feedback on how the participants did with each of the dolls on their table.
Before going off for the day, participants were treated to ‘round two’ of the lucky draw session where more expecting parents walked away with exciting gifts for their soon-to-arrive bundle of joy! All in all, 12 hampers were given out to our lucky participants by Ms. Lorraine Yit, Marketing Manager from Columbia Asia Hospital PUCHONG.
It was indeed a fun outing for the 120- strong crowd who definitely went home well informed, entertained and now even at ease on the idea of becoming a parent.
